Watch: Police Brutality in Kenya from a HRD’s perspective
Meet Francis, a grassroots human rights defender.
Since 2008, Francis has documented more than 200 cases of police brutality in the slums of Nairobi. Police have detained him more than 30 times since his work began, and death threats have forced him to move homes, yet he continues his work on the dangerous front lines of human rights.
On invitation of PBI Kenya – The Netherlands, Shelter City guest Sakwa came to Utrecht to talk about his work as a human rights defender (HRD) in Kenya. PBI Kenya – The Netherlands made a short documentary about his work on documenting extrajudicial killings in the slums of Nairobi and about the challenges he encounters while fighting for social justice. Please have a look at the trailer below or watch the documentary via the website of PBI Netherlands here.
