The Barcelona Guidelines for the Wellbeing of Human Rights Defenders

Dear Shelter City friends,

We are happy to share that the Barcelona Guidelines for the Wellbeing of Human Rights Defenders were presented by the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights defender Michel Forst at the Dublin Platform.

The Barcelona Guidelines are based on the research findings and the discussions between coordinators, wellbeing service providers, and researchers from around the world during an international retreat in Barcelona in June 2019.

The aim of the Guidelines is to support the wellbeing of human rights defenders at risk during their relocation. They are destined to oordinators of relocation initiatives and wellbeing service providers for human rights defenders.

The Guidelines are available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian. You can find more info here.

Many of those behind the creation of the guidelines are part of the Shelter City movement, in particular Justice & Peace NetherlandsUniversity of YorkThe New School, ICORN, and the Martin Roth initiative.

Thank you to everyone that contributed,

The Shelter City community
