Human rights defender Arsène visits the ‘Capital of Europe’

On Tuesday 25th September one of the current Shelter City participants Arsène from the DRC travelled to Brussels to broaden his network of contacts. The day started in the European Quarter with a meeting in EurAC (the European Network for Central Africa). Being the Director of an organisation which focuses on the Great Lakes himself, Arsène was already familiar with the work of EurAC and its publications.

After much exchanging of information and contacts, Arsène (and the EURAC team) made their way to the European Parliament to attend the conference “The Criminalisation of the Lucha Citizen Movement in the DRC”. This non-partisan conference was hosted by Member of the European Parliament Maria Arena (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats), and organised by Protection International and the European network for Central Africa (EurAc). Afterwards, Arsène had the opportunity to meet with one of the speakers, who is a member of LUCHA for the first time and to compare their experiences in regards to the movement.
